About Brahmatal Trek
Brahmatal trek's speciality lies in its trek route: you experience two distinctive mountain glacial lakes — Brahmatal Lake and Bekaltal Lake — each with unique features.
At a height of 3,400m above sea level, Brahmatal Lake is a frozen alpine glacial lake said in Hindu mythology to be named after Lord Brahma, who meditated here — hence 'Brahma-Tal', or Brahma's Lake.
Mythology
The name Brahmatal owes its origin to Lord Brahma, the Creator who meditated here. Lohajung, the base camp, is named for a legendary fight (Jung) between Goddess Parvati and the demon Lohasur.
How to reach Brahmatal
Lohajung serves as the base camp, with Kathgodam as the starting and ending point (better connected to Delhi at 320 km and Dehradun at 277 km).
By Flight: Nearest airport is Pantnagar (PGH), about an hour from Kathgodam. By Train/Road: Kathgodam is well connected to major cities, followed by an 8-10 hour drive to Lohajung via Ranikhet, Kausani, Gwaldam and Dewal.
